from the artist

When we first visited this spectacular series of red-orange boulder formations in the early 1990s, it was very hot. Some of the rocks are piled into pyramid shapes, while others are scattered around like very large marbles. Shade from the boulders provided some coolness, and I managed to paint this artwork on location. Amongst the boulders were scattered flora such as ghost gums and figs, some with roots spreading over rounded stone toward the earth seeking elusive moisture, as depicted in the artwork.
